My Review

These days there is noone who has not been hospitalized due to one disease or other. `There is noone who, at least once hospitalized, cannot relate to the book, the ethical doctor. The book is an unflinching account of all the ill practices prevalent in the health care sector. In other words there is nothing more to be written on medical ethics and unethical practices in the sector.

Author starts by stating oath to be taken on graduation. Author openly despises the utopian guidelines put forward by the medical council of India. While he states that dealing with and eradicating quacks is an easy yet ignored issue, accepting cuts and commissions is the prime reason for deteriorating credibility of medical profession. It is no longer a secret that doctors refer their patients to diagnostic centres of their preference, or to be precise, those that give them perks. Even self-referral can be seen. Dr. Mahawar states that this practice has spread its root to such extend that it is no longer considered unethical to assort to such practices.

Sponsored medical conferences and impact factor influenced journals are matters that are beyond the ccomprehension of laymen. To state the truth, I was completely unaware of this practice and if not for the book, I would still remain ignorant of the same. This is only one example of what explosive information doctor Mahawar shared in the book.

I would say that books like these do not need reviewers since this is a complete book, and I could not find any negative point because what’s in store for the readers is a far cry from what we actually know.
